Use the location first, then the number.
On this conventionally oriented map of Germany, north is at the top and east is on the right. Southeast is therefore toward the lower right. Find Bavaria’s large continuous area there, then trace the associated arrow line back to 4.
Neighbours provide extra orientation: Czechia lies east of Bavaria, Austria south of it, and Baden-Württemberg is a western neighbour. The official description also identifies Bavaria as the largest federal state by area. These features help you recognise the area without depending on a fixed number.

The other three answers
The other arrows end in different areas of the map.
1
Arrow 1 points to an inland area farther west and north. It does not end in Bavaria’s large southeastern area.
2
Arrow 2 points to the southwestern area to the left of Bavaria. Being in the south is not enough: the question asks for Bavaria in the southeast.
3
Arrow 3 ends farther inland north of Bavaria. Follow its tip instead of confusing the digit’s position on the right with the location of the requested state.
An image number is not a permanent state code.
The number 4 applies to this particular illustration. A differently labelled map can assign Bavaria another number. Learn the location and outline as orientation, rather than the digit alone.
The catalogue map is a simplified overview, not a map for boundary surveying or route planning. The additional AI pictures are symbolic everyday scenes. The unchanged original graphic remains the reference for the actual image question.
